From the Louisiana Democratic Party
BATON ROUGE, LA – State Representative and candidate for governor, John Bel Edwards (D-Amite) accepted the endorsement of the Louisiana Democratic Party on Saturday, March 28th in Baton Rouge.
“This early unified support affords me the best opportunity to win as we continue to reach out not just to democrats, but also to independents, republicans and to everyone who wants to put Louisiana first,” said Edwards.
The endorsement follows closely on the heals of the Louisiana AFL-CIO endorsement and two recent republican polls that show Edwards in a statistical tie with republican front runner Senator David Vitter. The polls showed that the pro-gun, pro-life Edwards is leading among both African American voters as well as white Independents.
Edwards’ platform of supporting institutions that provide opportunities for working people to succeed gives him a populist message that resonates with Democrats and Republicans alike. “As the only veteran in the race I appeal to a diverse base of voters in our state because I am authentic,” said Edwards. “People are ready for authentic leadership for Louisiana.”
